So its March 29th 2024 and while we're writing new material, we've updated our YouTube channel with some new content that you may have (ie most likely) have not seen yet or brushed over. We've taken to uploading YouTube Shorts as they seem to get the best traction than fullsized video content so we'll start producing content for that specific delivery medium like TikTok (which we have but is not really to update.....yet)
So in the meantime, here are some videos from our shorts stream on YouTube.
Stream our Unusual Conversations album from 2014 NOW! Available on all streaming platforms from Spotify to Apple Music to Amazon Music, YouTube and all other online streaming services that you may prefer! Add us to you your playlist! We will be releasing our first album to stream eventually but it will need a re-mix and re-master first. In the meantime, check out the Spotify player below.
Well this is a new!! Normally when we write music or rehearse, we do so by making a hell of a racket at Rock City Studios in Upper Coomera for about a year which eventually leads to an album of music to be recorded. But this time, the writing process is much different. Our drummer Ty is using an electric drum kit and we are using our practice amps to handle the writing. I'm using a Fender FM65r solid state amp (12inch speaker) while Frank is using his Spark amp for bass work. Once we have all the tracks written and pre-prod work done, we will all trundle off to Rock City or even the Belmont Basement to rehearse the material at stage volume and tweak and change it from there until its ready to be recorded!
Already we have noticed a remarkable difference in performance. The electric kit obviously behaves way different to an acoustic kit so Ty is tweaking the kits parameters like curve and thresholds etc.. The performing using quieter amps requires a cleaner performance for myself and Franks bass, even playing old songs that we only played a month ago with no real issues, playing them much quieter proved to be quite the challenge!
Here's some photos and video of last nights quiet writing session and rehearsals. Note how we cocked up the song Station 13 as we've never played it this way before! It is insane the way the mind works by telling you "hang on! this is not right, why is the volume so low?" as you proceed to forget how everything seems to go! hah! Sorry for the low quality video, something went funny with the camera focus for some reason, it gets a little better in the middle!
I know it sounds loud in the video but in the room is was no louder than 90db! Normally our rehearsals are about 110 to 118 dB in volume! So this is really different for us and going to take some getting used to that's for sure!
Well well! It has been ride and a half world wide with this bullshit that was COVID and the world wide response has affected everyone in one way or another; It affected The Cilikis as well. We had released an album and video clip in 2019 and spent a good couple of months prepping to play out Anomaly album live for everyone and BOOM, Covid hit and wrecked all of that. We put it on the back burner like everyone else did and after the big lockdowns, we went back in to the studio to rehearse for a live show at the Woolly Mammoth in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley in November 2020. That was the only gig we had in 2020 and decided to start working on some new material but with what has been happening in the world of live music, we decided to take a break during 2021 to rest and reset. Our guitarist, Brendan, moved house a number of times since 2019 which hasnt helped the situation along with COVID and other life interruptions .
Now its 2022 and we are set to start writing some new music again after the lockdown induced live music debacle that was 2020 and 2021. Brendan has purchased a new seven string guitar to venture into a different world of music writing and working on some massive tunes for a future fourth album! Brendan and Ty will be getting together in the coming weeks and months to do some jamming and writing of new material. Greatly looking forward to that! Nice beefy seven string progressive metal action and maybe a slight return to our Cilikis Progressio Project days with some good ole guitar instrumental stuff.. We'll see what these sessions bring, we are looking forward to it getting back into it.
Thats all from planet Cilikis for now. More updates to come...
